About Aintree

Aintree Racecourse, nestled in Liverpool, Merseyside, is steeped in history, having hosted racing since 1829. Primarily a National Hunt venue, it’s globally synonymous with the world’s most famous steeplechase. The track itself is predominantly flat and triangular, featuring three distinct courses. The iconic Grand National course, with its unique and formidable spruce fences like Becher's Brook, The Chair, and Valentine's Brook, is a true test of horse and rider over a gruelling 4 miles and 2½ furlongs. Alongside this, there's the Mildmay course, also for chases but with smaller, more conventional fences, and the Hurdle course. While the ground is generally flat, the sheer scale of the Grand National fences and the distance make it a supreme challenge. What makes Aintree truly notable is its annual Grand National Festival in April, culminating in the "People's Race." This event transcends sport, capturing the nation's imagination and creating an unparalleled atmosphere. Beyond the main event, the festival also features top-class Grade 1 races on the Mildmay and Hurdle courses, attracting racing's elite. Aintree is more than just a racecourse; it's a legendary sporting theatre.
