About Ayr
Ayr Racecourse, nestled in South Ayrshire, stands proudly as Scotland’s premier racing venue, with a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1907, though racing in Ayr has a much longer heritage. This dual-purpose course offers thrilling action over both Flat and Jumps, making it a cornerstone of the Scottish racing calendar. The track itself is a left-handed, galloping oval, approximately one mile and five furlongs in circumference for the Flat course, featuring a demanding six-furlong straight. While generally considered a fair, flat track, it provides a true test for horses and jockeys across distances ranging from five furlongs on the Flat to a gruelling four miles over fences. What makes Ayr truly notable is its status as Scotland’s only Grade 1 racecourse and its vibrant atmosphere. It’s home to two of the UK's most prestigious races: the Ayr Gold Cup, a fiercely competitive Flat sprint handicap, and the Scottish Grand National, a gruelling test of stamina and jumping ability. These, alongside the Western Meeting, cement Ayr’s reputation as a must-visit destination for any racing enthusiast.
