About Ffos Las
Welcome to Ffos Las, Wales' newest dual-purpose racecourse, a true testament to modern racing built on the site of a former open-cast coal mine in Trimsaran, Carmarthenshire. Opening its gates in 2009, Ffos Las quickly established itself as a valuable addition to the UK racing calendar, offering both thrilling Flat and Jump action. It holds the distinction of being the first new National Hunt course to open in Britain for 80 years. The track itself is a left-handed, galloping oval, measuring approximately one mile and four furlongs per circuit. Renowned for its flat terrain and long, four-furlong home straight, it’s considered a very fair test for horses and jockeys alike. This layout, combined with excellent drainage, often means good ground conditions, making it a popular choice for trainers. While still building its legacy, Ffos Las has become notable for its quality fixtures and ability to attract competitive fields across all distances, from five-furlong sprints to two-mile chases, offering a modern, enjoyable racing experience in a picturesque Welsh setting.
