About Kempton Park
Kempton Park, nestled in Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey, is a cornerstone of British horse racing, operating as a dual-purpose track since its grand opening in 1878. Renowned for its distinctive all-weather Polytrack, it hosts year-round flat racing, including popular floodlit evening fixtures, alongside a thrilling National Hunt programme. The track itself is a right-handed oval, measuring around 1 mile 5 furlongs. Its flat course is known for being galloping with subtle undulations, featuring a separate 5-furlong straight. For jump racing, its relatively sharp bends and long home straight test both horse and jockey. Kempton truly comes alive over the Christmas period, hosting its iconic Winter Festival. This features the Grade 1 King George VI Chase on Boxing Day, a true test of a championship chaser, alongside the equally prestigious Christmas Hurdle. These festive highlights, combined with its consistent all-weather action, cement Kempton Park's status as a vital and much-loved venue on the racing calendar.
