About Newbury

Newbury Racecourse, nestled in the heart of Berkshire, is a cornerstone of British racing, renowned for its dual-purpose excellence since opening in 1905. A left-handed, galloping track, it’s wide and relatively flat, providing a fair test for both Flat and Jump horses. Its long straight and gentle bends favour a strong, well-balanced runner, often setting up thrilling finishes. On the Flat, distances range up to 1m6f, with the prestigious Group 1 Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes and the Weatherbys Super Sprint being standout events. Over obstacles, races extend to 3m2f, featuring the Grade 1 Challow Novices' Hurdle and the Grade 2 Denman Chase. Historically, the track also hosted the famous Hennessy Gold Cup, now the BetVictor Gold Cup, a significant early-season chase. Newbury’s excellent ground and top-class facilities make it a favourite for both trainers and racegoers, cementing its reputation as a premier racing venue.
