About Taunton
Nestled in the heart of Somerset, Taunton Racecourse offers a quintessential National Hunt experience. Opened in 1927, it's a relatively modern track but steeped in local racing tradition. Known for its friendly atmosphere and competitive jump racing, Taunton is a firm favourite among West Country enthusiasts, particularly for its popular winter fixtures. The course itself is a left-handed, undulating oval circuit, stretching approximately 1 mile 2 furlongs. It's considered a stiff test, especially when the ground is soft, with a long uphill run-in after the final obstacle that can really sort out the stayers. While it doesn't boast Grade 1 contests, Taunton is often the proving ground for future stars, with many promising novices and young jockeys making their mark here before progressing to bigger stages. It's a track where form holds up, providing thrilling racing action and a true taste of grassroots jump racing.
