About Wetherby

Nestled in West Yorkshire, Wetherby Racecourse is a true National Hunt stalwart, boasting a rich history stretching back to its establishment in 1891. It holds the unique distinction of being Yorkshire's only exclusively jump racing venue, making it a vital fixture on the northern circuit. The track itself is a left-handed, undulating oval, approximately 1 mile 4 furlongs in circumference. Known for its galloping nature and stiff fences, it presents a demanding test, particularly when winter ground bites. A long run-in to the finish adds to the challenge, often leading to thrilling conclusions. Wetherby is renowned for its excellent jumping ground and serves as a significant proving ground for future stars, with many horses using it as a stepping stone to Cheltenham or Aintree. Its two standout races are the Grade 2 Charlie Hall Chase in October, an early season highlight, and the Grade 3 Rowland Meyrick Handicap Chase on Boxing Day, a festive favourite. A visit to Wetherby promises top-class action and a welcoming Yorkshire atmosphere.
