Stimulative Trip (David Menuisier / Paul Mulrennan, rated 89) carries the [D] flag and merits respect. Menuisier's horses tend to be well-prepared for conditions, and distance form on this track is not easily acquired. On good to firm ground, the pace of the race will suit a horse that can sustain its effort through the final furlong — Beverley's run-in has a way of exposing those who are merely travelling well.

Two-Year-Old Maidens: Early Movers Worth Tracking

The opening three races are exclusively for two-year-olds, and while ratings are absent — as they must be for unraced juveniles — there are names worth filing away for later in the season.

In the 14:00 maiden over five furlongs, Queen of Christmas (K. R. Burke / Clifford Lee) arrives from a yard that rarely wastes a debut at a track this sharp without purpose. Burke's juveniles are typically well-schooled before their first appearance, and Clifford Lee's familiarity with Beverley's quirks is an asset in a race where inexperience can be punished by the track's camber.

Callum Rodriguez takes the ride on Louis The Fifth for Michael Bell in the same contest. Bell is a trainer whose two-year-olds often improve markedly from their debut, but Rodriguez's booking suggests there is something to work with from the outset. Bell's runners on good to firm ground tend to be well within themselves, and five furlongs at Beverley on a quick surface is a test of raw speed that suits a forward-going type.

In the 15:00 EBF Restricted Maiden over six furlongs and 195 yards — the longest of the juvenile contests — Telegraphic (Charlie Johnston / Connor Beasley) warrants attention. Johnston's yard has a strong record with juveniles on northern tracks, and the step up in trip from the earlier maidens may suit a horse bred to get further. P. J.
