About Chepstow

Chepstow Racecourse, nestled in the picturesque Monmouthshire countryside, has been a cornerstone of Welsh racing since its establishment in 1926. This dual-purpose track offers thrilling action over both Flat and Jumps, drawing enthusiasts to its scenic location near the River Wye and historic Chepstow Castle. The course itself is a left-handed, undulating oval circuit, measuring approximately 1 mile 6 furlongs. Its challenging terrain, particularly the rising ground on the back straight, demands stamina and tactical riding, with horses facing a long run-in of around five furlongs, making for dramatic finishes. The jump course features eleven fences per circuit, testing both horse and jockey. Chepstow is perhaps best known for hosting the prestigious Welsh Grand National, a Grade 3 chase run annually in late December, often providing a vital pointer for the Aintree equivalent. It also traditionally kicks off the main jumps season in October with the Silver Trophy Handicap Hurdle, and hosts the Grade 2 Finale Juvenile Hurdle. Its unique blend of challenging track and major races ensures Chepstow remains a firm favourite on the racing calendar.
