Bank Holiday Monday Magic at Plumpton
What a cracking way to spend a Bank Holiday Monday! Plumpton served up a proper feast of flat racing that had everything - competitive handicaps, intriguing maidens, and a feature race worthy of the name. Seven races spanning the afternoon on good ground with firm patches made for ideal conditions, and the quality of horse on show was genuinely impressive for a Monday card.

The £40k Racing TV Zetland Gold Cup Handicap over a mile and a quarter was always going to be the main event, and what a field assembled! Flying Frontier and Danger Bay headed the weights on 94, but this looked wide open with genuine class throughout.
Connor Beasley getting the leg up on Flying Frontier caught the eye immediately. This horse has been knocking on the door in similar company, and the booking suggests connections fancy their chances big time. But Danger Bay with Callum Rodriguez can't be dismissed - that partnership has been in red-hot form lately.
The most intriguing runner had to be Saint Etienne with Sam James aboard. Rated 92, this one's been campaigned sparingly but with real purpose. The step up to this trip looked tailor-made, and you got the feeling we might be seeing something special unfold.
David Egan making the trip down for Fierce Fortitude spoke volumes too. When jockeys of that calibre rock up at Plumpton racecard level, you sit up and take notice. This one's been working his way back to form and could easily outrun his odds.

Romanticizing with Daniel Tudhope was the one that had tongues wagging in the paddock. This Dubawi colt has been working the house down at home, and Tudhope doesn't travel for no-hopers. The breeding suggests middle distances will be his game eventually, but he's got the pace for this trip.
Don't sleep on Norman Invasion either. Kieran Shoemark in the saddle, and this one's been showing serious speed in his homework. The name suggests confidence from connections, and sometimes that's all you need to know.

Romanticizing, regardless of how he goes here, screams Derby trial horse for next season. The breeding's there, the connections know what they're doing, and Tudhope's involvement suggests serious ability.
From the handicap ranks, Love Alive looks ready for a step up in class. A win here could see connections targeting something like Royal Ascot's Wokingham or even the July Cup at Newmarket if the form works out.
Flying Frontier, win or lose in the feature, has to be one for the big summer staying handicaps. The Northumberland Plate at Newcastle would suit down to the ground, and connections clearly think he's ready for a proper campaign.
