Stuart Edmunds doesn't run horses for the good of his health, and a horse that's already proven himself around this track over this trip on ground like this is not to be dismissed lightly. The age is a concern, but if he's come here in form, he's the one they all have to beat.

Court In A Storm (7yo, rated 118, Tom Bellamy, Kim Bailey & Mat Nicholls) has the [D] flag — distance winner — and at seven years old is right in the prime of his chasing career. Kim Bailey knows how to place a horse, and Tom Bellamy is a jockey who gives you an honest, intelligent ride. On Good ground with a bit of juice in it, this horse should be travelling comfortably. He's my idea of the one most likely to trouble the judge.

Mt Fugi Park (8yo, rated 122, Benjamin Macey, Jonjo & A.J. O'Neill) is the top weight and heads the ratings. Jonjo O'Neill's yard has been in decent nick, and a rating of 122 in a Class 4 field tells you this horse is well handicapped if he's anywhere near his best. The question, as always with the top weight in a competitive handicap, is whether the weight will anchor him on the run-in. Worth a look at the market.

Axel Bleue (6yo, rated 105, James Bowen, Mickey Bowen) is a [C,D] runner — course and distance winner — and at just six years of age, he's the youngest in the field. He's got a stone to find on the top weights on ratings, but course and distance form on today's going is a serious asset. Don't be surprised if he runs a big race at a juicy price.

The Opening Chase: Widmer Handicap Steeple Chase (13:55)

The 13:55 Class 5 chase over 2m 4f gets the afternoon underway, and there are a couple of angles worth exploring here. Doyouknowwhatimean — and God bless whoever named that horse, they deserve a prize — is a nine-year-old rated 105, ridden by Kevin Brogan for Gary Hanmer. He's a [C] runner, meaning he's won at this course before, and Hanmer is a trainer who quietly gets results without making a fuss about it. Kevin Brogan is a capable handler and knows this track well.

Greer Hill (5yo, rated 90, William Shanahan, Jennie Candlish) is the youngest in the field at five and also carries the [C] flag. Jennie Candlish has had a solid season and William Shanahan is a jockey on the up. On Good ground, a young, improving horse with course form is always interesting. He's 15 pounds below the top of the weights and that's a meaningful advantage.

Sean Bowen takes the ride on Traveling Soldier (8yo, rated 86, Olly Murphy) and whenever Bowen gets on a horse, you pay attention. He's the kind of jockey who can find lengths from nowhere, and Olly Murphy's horses are rarely without a chance. Traveling Soldier is at the bottom end of the weights, which helps.

Ones To Watch Elsewhere On The Card

The 15:30 maiden hurdle over 2m is a fascinating puzzle. Unrated horses are always a lottery, but Iwanttobreakfree (4yo, Harry Skelton, Dan Skelton) jumps off the page immediately. The Skelton operation is a well-oiled machine and they don't run horses in maiden hurdles without expecting to be competitive. Harry Skelton on a Dan Skelton runner in a maiden is a combination that has robbed many a punter blind over the years — in the best possible sense.

In the 16:00 Class 4 handicap hurdle, Media Mogul (5yo, rated 105, David Bass, Tom Dascombe) carries the [C,D] flag and Bass is a jockey who rides Wolverhampton well. Ben Jones takes the mount on Break Point (6yo, rated 107, Luke Dace) who also has the [D] flag. Jones has been in fine form and at the top of the weights, Break Point will need to deliver, but the distance form is there.

The 16:30 Class 5 hurdle over 2m 4f has thirteen runners and is the kind of race where the favourite gets stuffed and someone at 16/1 romps home. Keep an eye on Little Ledgend (6yo, rated 102, Sean Bowen, Olly Murphy) — yes, Bowen again, the man's everywhere today. Course and distance winner Midnight Jewel (10yo, rated 96, Lilly Pinchin, Charlie Longsdon) also catches the eye with [C,D] flags. Ten years old, but she knows this track inside out.

Finally in the 17:05, Back To Cali (6yo, rated 100, Harry Skelton, Dan Skelton) is the one I'd be watching in the 2m 7f handicap hurdle. The Skeltons are double-handed on the card today and they rarely waste a journey to the Midlands.
