She Is For Me Boys (7yo, rated 110, Jamie Snowden / Gavin Sheehan) is interesting at a bigger price. Course-and-distance winner, handles this type of ground, and Snowden is quietly having a fine season. The rating of 110 looks workable in this company if everything clicks.

The Big Hurdle: £70k Fixed Brush Series Final (14:40, 2m 4f)

Seventy thousand pounds for a novices' handicap hurdle — jaysus, the prize money in these series finals has gotten serious altogether. Sixteen runners, Good ground, 2m 4f — and Olly Murphy has the audacity to run two of the leading fancies. The man has no shame, and I mean that as a compliment.

Road To Wembley (5yo, rated 124, Olly Murphy / Sean Bowen) is the top-rated runner and carries both the [C] and [D] flags — course and distance form. Sean Bowen is as reliable as a Tuesday in a working week, and if this horse jumps fluently on Good ground, he's going to take some stopping. Murphy's string is in cracking form and this looks like a well-laid plan coming to fruition.

Trouville (5yo, rated 120, Olly Murphy / Mr Troy Walsh) is stablemate number two, and at a slightly lower rating with a course win to his name [C], he shouldn't be dismissed. Murphy will know which of his two is the better bet, but punters won't have that luxury — so Road To Wembley gets the nod on ratings alone.

Square d'Alboni (4yo, rated 119, Dan Skelton / Harry Atkins) catches my eye as the danger. Course winner [C], four-year-old with potential improvement still in the tank, and Skelton will have him primed. If Road To Wembley has any traffic problems in a sixteen-runner field, this fellow could pounce.

Key Runners to Watch Across the Card

12:55 — Turpin Gold (Tom Lacey / Stan Sheppard)

Opening proceedings is a Class 5 handicap chase over 2m 110y, and the top-rated runner Turpin Gold (10yo, rated 100) carries the [D] flag — a distance winner at this course. At ten years old he's no spring chicken, but Stan Sheppard is a fine horseman who can get the best from a seasoned campaigner. Tom Lacey doesn't run horses for the good of their health, and on Good ground, Turpin Gold's experience counts for a lot in a Class 5. He's the one to beat.

Galeforcechopper (5yo, rated 99, Liam Harrison / David Brace) is the one I'd throw in against him. Course winner [C], five years old and still learning his trade — if he jumps cleanly, he has youth and upside on his side.

13:30 — Serious Chat (Donald McCain / Theo Gillard)

The Class 3 novices' limited handicap chase over 2m 7f has only five runners but don't let that fool you — the quality is sharp. Serious Chat (7yo, rated 131) is the highest-rated runner on today's entire card in terms of his division, and the [D] flag tells you he's already proven himself over this trip. Donald McCain knows his way around a chase, and Theo Gillard has been riding with real confidence of late. The Good ground suits a horse of his class. He's a warm favourite, and for once, I'm not going to argue with the market.

15:50 — Tiger Orchid (Stuart Edmunds / Charlie Hammond)

In the Class 4 handicap hurdle over 2m 7f, eleven-year-old Tiger Orchid [C,D] stands out as a course-and-distance specialist. Yes, he's ancient. Yes, the handicapper has him pegged. But Good ground over a trip he's won at on this track before — you can't just wave him away. Stuart Edmunds is a trainer who picks his spots carefully, and this could be one of them.

16:25 — Network Rgb (Olly Murphy / Lewis Saunders)

Closing the card, the conditional jockeys' handicap hurdle over 2m throws up Network Rgb (4yo, rated 102, Olly Murphy) with both the [C] and [D] flags flying. Murphy's day just keeps getting better if this one runs up to form. Jonathan Burke isn't on this one but keep an eye on Jack Tudor and Ciaran Gethings as two of the sharpest conditional-era graduates riding today — Tudor partners Moon D'Orange in the earlier handicap hurdle and Gethings has Good For You in the opener.
