That's a man who clearly fancies his chances across the board — or at the very least, he's got good relationships with the yards involved. He's on Frantic in the novice, Elvetham in the sprint handicap, La Peregrina in the mile-and-five, Laughterintherain in the mile handicap, and Phoenix Moon in the six-furlong closer. If Marquand has a big day, you can be fairly sure the form is solid — he's not a man who rides bad horses willingly.

Rob Hornby is similarly busy, with four rides including Reader in the fillies' maiden and Hope Rising in the mile-and-five handicap. Hornby is criminally underrated as a jockey in my opinion — tidy, patient, and very good at getting horses to settle. On a track like Kempton where the pace can be deceptive, that's a real asset.

Keep an eye on Dougie Costello too. He's riding Blazing Gaden in the novice and St Hilda in the mile-and-five handicap. Costello is a grafter who knows the all-weather game better than most, and he's worth following when he takes a ride at a track like this.

Looking Ahead — Where Do These Horses Go Next?

If Storm Force wins the novice impressively, I'd expect connections to look at a Listed race in October — possibly something at Newmarket or Ascot as the Flat season winds towards its climax. A horse with a good Kempton debut under his belt and Doyle in the saddle is a horse with options.

Reader, if she gets the job done in the fillies' maiden, is a filly who could progress through the handicap ranks quickly. She might not even need to go handicapping — a conditions race or a Listed fillies' event could be on the agenda if she wins with any authority.

For the handicappers like La Peregrina and Hope Rising, the autumn staying handicaps are the obvious next port of call. There are good staying handicaps at Lingfield, Wolverhampton, and Kempton itself through September and October, and a horse who shows improvement here could be very well treated for those.

And RB Yas Sir? Well, if a 107-rated horse is slumming it at Kempton on a Tuesday in September, there's almost certainly something bigger on the horizon. A Group race abroad, a valuable conditions event, or maybe just a sharpener before a big autumn campaign. I'll be watching the entries closely.
