Eve Johnson Houghton sends up Betty Clover from the south, and at OR 91 she's well-weighted relative to Havana Pusey. Oliver Carmichael takes the ride — a young jockey who's been improving steadily and handles northern tracks well. Draw 9 is manageable on this track. The absence of course or distance form flags is the one thing that gives me pause, but Johnson Houghton's fillies are reliably consistent and this one arrives here in good nick.

Miss Nightcap (Draw 6, OR 88)

A distance winner with the tongue tie applied, Miss Nightcap for Edward Smyth-Osbourne is drawn ideally in stall 6. Rob Hornby is a rider who extracts every yard out of a horse, and the headgear suggests connections are looking to sharpen her focus.
